Hear from 1996 Archibald Prize–winning artist Wendy Sharpe in conversation with journalist Elizabeth Fortescue about Sharpe’s practice and current exhibition Spellbound at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, comprising paintings, drawings, artist’s books, ceramics, wall murals and more.

Sharpe is one of Australia’s most celebrated artists. Working predominantly in painting and drawing for over four decades, she is known for her expressive work and passionate approach to art, which saw her become the first woman since the Second World War to be appointed an official war artist by the Australian War Memorial. She has held over 70 solo exhibitions and in 2023 was appointed a member of the Order of Australia for her significant service to the visual arts and to the community.

Elizabeth Fortescue is an arts journalist who has written extensively for many publications, including currently the Australian Financial Review and The Art Newspaper. Her book Wendy Sharpe: Many lives has just been published.
