Will Hotten Rezoned

As places evolve our experiences within them begin to exist only as warped memories and nostalgia. Rezoned explores how memory is the only medium in which certain experiences of small Australian coastal communities now exist, with the local milk-bar replaced by the petrol station, the beachfront RSL demolished for high-rise apartments. Inspired by my parents’ frequent nostalgic recounts of family trips to the coast, full of warm sun in small towns, my body of work expresses this dream-like aspect of memory. The collaged elements represent the fact that, due to mass development, I have never experienced these vanished communities myself.
