My body of work represents the development of sailing culture from ancient origins. It shows the change in sailing’s purpose, from a means of transportation and expansion, to a recreational pursuit and high-performance racing. Text referencing Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle points to the prevalence of physics in sailing and the inherent doubt engrained within human endeavour, while manifesting the importance of exceeding rational limits in pursuing an end-goal. My work carries deep personal meaning as I attempt to understand my roots as a skiff sailor and our developing identity as a collective, within an immersive, ever-changing environment.
