Precise embroidered surfaces reflect my interests in nanotechnology and medicine. Hand stitching and mending reference human skin scarring and healing. Circular bases mimic embroidery hoops and the lenses of microscopes. Patterns reflect paths of grief that initially manifest microscopically inside individuals, beneath layers of the epidermis. After I discovered that psychological wounds appear macroscopically as disease after being dormant and suppressed, I combined elements of nanotechnology, rotting skin, colourful threads and mending, challenging the viewer to consider the experience of technology inside them, and to observe the behaviours and talents, such as art, that they inherit genetically.
