Conor Clarke Next of kin - scenario and stereotypes
Through my work I reveal aspects of social and family life, shedding light on the carefree nature of childhood compared to the expectations of domestic roles such as parenting. I used clay to hand-sculpt each individual in a scene that symbolises their role in a family. The children (proportionally over-sized) are viewed fishing, stargazing and eating from a bowl whereas the mother has the responsibility of a pram and the balding father sits at the bottom of a seesaw, head buried in his hands, lamenting the burden of his responsibilities.
