Jock Armstrong Hope and sea

A journey can be treacherous and even fatal. Asylum seekers are forced to seek sanctuary, seeking freedom out of necessity. Their journey can be hazardous and many have died in their endeavours to escape their countries’ perils. My work uses dark and ominous colours and tones to represent the deep blue where those asylum seekers now lie. The cloth and various materials are symbols of debris and hope. Bitumen paint is used ironically to symbolise the Australian road, which so often represents a journey and homecoming.
