Hayley Cumming From where I stand

We live in a society that is becoming increasingly virtual. We look down at our phones when we walk, no longer concerned about the physicality of the environment that surrounds us. The streets we walk along seem deficient in comparison to the images that flood our screens. Inspired by Gary Turk’s film Look up, my work is an attempt to reconnect the audience with the beauty of the understated and familiar. In my practice I became reacquainted with the skyline of rooftops and wires that I walk past every day, rediscovering the gold hidden beneath their surface.
