abyssal: of or relating to the lower depths of the ocean

When the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten, and the last stream poisoned, you will realise that you cannot eat money. Ninety-five per cent of the ocean is still to be explored, and yet fifty per cent of the Great Barrier Reef has already perished. Coal-based industries and human pollution are tearing apart profound deep-sea habitats; ignorance isn’t an option. Each of my five specimens represents a stage of extinction, as we approach ultimate annihilation. My work bears a resemblance to Jade Oakley’s work, with rusted wire, handmade seaweed paper and Japanese paper signifying the effect of dismissive attitudes.
