Hypnagogia explores the concept of lucid dreaming, specifically the ambiguous state between wakefulness and sleep. A hypnagogic state combines vivid images of realism with the surreal impossibilities of distortion and imagination. I show this juxtaposition by contrasting the detail of the pen with the explosive randomness of the lithographic prints. Passing through this state is usually passive and uncontrolled, so I emphasised the notion of ‘entanglement’ or ‘entrapment’ with the addition of entwining hair, tentacles and varying abstract forms.
