Joel Martorana Masked
Through my work, Masked, I explored two facets of human nature. The first, our uncanny ability to veil our inner selves so that our ‘interface’ with others reveals only what we want them to see; and second, the superficiality of our judgement of others. The masks represent how one’s identity can be limited by an aesthetic perception. My sculptures are intended to be both comical and uncomfortably eerie. I hope an audience can see something strange yet familiar in the characters I have created – perhaps even something of themselves.
