Philipa Collins The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes

Work by Philipa Collins

My artwork examines the nature of human perception, as relative, transient and personal, reflecting a countless range of factors and containing elements often perplexing even to the foremost theorists. Led by personal interest, my work aims to present experiments for the viewer’s eye, inviting recognition of the indirect and likely imprecise way they view the world. In constructing my work, scale proved to be pivotal in utilising and exposing the eye’s habits and idiosyncrasies, whilst human faces as the basis of my subject matter were conceptually valuable because of the especial connection the mind holds in recognising such features.
